KC Clay Guild’s annual Holiday Sale is an opportunity for members of our community to showcase their work. The sale is open to all ages, techniques and skill levels. All applicants who correctly fill out the application will be accepted.
The sale takes place in the Community Studio and Richard J. Stern Gallery of KC Clay Guild Ceramic Art Center, located at 500 W 39th Street.
Friday, December 4th from 5 - 9pm
Saturday, December 5th from 10am - 5pm
Sunday, December 6th from Noon - 4pm
What is the Holiday Sale and Studio Tour?
The Studio Tour is an opportunity for ceramic artists around the metro to showcase their work and their workspaces. Members and Non-members are welcome.
The tour takes place at various locations around the metro. Each location sets their own hours.

Holiday Sale Application
What to expect:
Each artist will have their own space to set up and display their work. Tables, displays, table clothes, etc. are all provided by the artist.
All sales will go through a central checkout. Artist will be expected to fill out a spreadsheet of their inventory prior to the sale. A standardized format will be provided after the applications have closed.
Unless specified, artists will be expected to work one 4-hour shift during the sale. Duties will include things like wrapping sold items, assisting shoppers with full hands, ringing up sales and taking payments and restocking our fellow participants displays.
Artists will receive 80% of their total sales. The Guild keeps 20% for overhead and expenses.

Before you apply:
Be sure you have your artist statement/ bio written. This is a short paragraph about yourself and your creations. Please write this in the 3rd person. Statement must be uploaded in Word Doc (.docx) format.
Be ready to upload 3 - 4 photos of your work. Phone photos are fine. Natural light is great for ceramics. White or otherwise simple backgrounds are preferred. Photos should be in JPEG format and at least 300dpi.

Set up will be on Thursday, December 3th from 4pm - 9pm and Friday, December 4th from Noon - 4pm. If you arrive after 3pm on Friday, you will not be allowed to set up. Please plan accordingly.

It is an 80/20 split. The Guild takes a 20% commission of sales to cover overhead.

All work must be primarily fired ceramic. Air dry and polymer clay objects are not permitted. Wires for sculptural objects and jewelry fixings are permitted.

Participants are encouraged to help by sharing and reposting Holiday Sale and studio tour posts.

KC Clay Guild does not collect or pay sales tax due to our non-profit status.
Each artist is responsible for calculating and paying their own sales tax.

Accounting will occur within one week after the sale.
You will receive a copy of your inventory sheets and payment through Paypal, Zelle or a mailed check.
Payments via Zelle and Paypal are more secure and will arrive up to 2 weeks sooner.

Artist may begin breaking down their displays at 4pm on Sunday. Breakdown must be complete by 5:30pm. (This is more than enough time for the typical display)
There is a $30 per hour fee for anyone who arrives late for break down, causing staff to stay past 5:30pm.
Display options:
Standard space: These spaces fit a standard 6 foot folding table. The cost of this space is $60.
Emerging Artist space: This is a 5 foot space on the counter under the glass windows in our community studio. No table or table covering is needed. This space is great for any artists just getting started who does not own an extensive set up. The cost of this space is $40.
Endcap space: These displays will be at the end of each row, and will allow for displays that can be shopped from the front and the sides. The cost of this space is $80.
Artists who want to participate but are not available to work a shift may still apply for an additional fee.
Application fee is non-refundable if you decide to drop out of the sale.

Standard setup allots participants a space equal to a standard 6 ft table (approximately 72" x 36'“).
No furnishing are provided.
Unless otherwise noted, participants are expected to work one 4-hour shift during the sale. Artists who wish to participate, but can not work may do so by purchasing the “participate not working shift” add-on.

Studio Tour
Participating studio tour artists and locations provide all necessary displays, run their own sales and are welcome to set their own hours during the weekend of the sale. No commission is taken by KC Clay Guild.
Participating locations will receive a featured post on our Facebook and Instagram pages, will be listed as a participating location on our main Holiday Sale and Tour page, and will also have a linked page dedicated to their location which will list the address, hours and participating artists. Photos and social media links will also be listed.
Pricing:
1 -5 artists: $70
6 - 12 artists: $150
13 or more artists: $200
Before you apply:
Have a brief write up and 3 - 4 photos of each participating artist ready to upload to the Dropbox link in the application.
Writeups should be in Word Doc (.docx) format.
