(Canceled) Hands-On Fabric Texture Workshop with Sam Sequeira
This workshop gives students a hands-on opportunity to learn Sam’s process for making clay look like garments. Students will learn how to adorn a vase with the appearance of fabric or a garment. In addition to instruction, students will receive a slip trailer full of slip for making stitches, and a plaster press mold to make assorted seams. These tools are for the students to keep.
Students must come to the workshop with a premade vessel in the shape of the person they would like to adorn. The vessel should be at a soft-leather-hard texture, so students can attach adornments and have some malleability. A heavy shoulder and narrower foot are recommended. The vessel should be 10-15 inches high. Because of this, this workshop is best for intermediate students.

Please use cone 5 clay (B-mix or another clay with good plasticity recommended). You may use studio recycle but it will be fired to cone 5, not cone 10. Bring to class at least 10 lbs of the same clay you built your vessel with.
Students are encouraged to bring underglazes for personal use, scraps of fabric for texture and brainstorming for mixed media applications post-firing.
Sam will demonstrate:
● Baggy clay pants using slabs and plastic (cargo pants)
● Shirts with seams using slabs and plaster molds (shirt and vest combo)
● Transfer paper for tattoos, patchwork, and panels
● Slip trail stitching for patches or detail work (belt buckles, fishnets, mesh)
● If time allows they will show how they construct the accessories for the pieces and utilizing mixed media elements.
