Artist in Residence Program

The KC Clay Guild offers a dynamic Artist in Residence program, providing three artists with studio space, materials, and a monthly stipend. In addition, a Studio Technician position is open to those holding a MFA.  In exchange, our Artists in Residence enrich the KCCG community by offering fresh perspectives, teaching, and contributing their talents. Each artist is expected to serve 12 hours per week in the studio, engaging with members and assisting with various studio operations. The Studio Technician serves 15 hours per week with a focus on assisting our Studio Manager in building maintenance and operations.

We encourage artists from diverse backgrounds to apply for this exciting opportunity to be part of a vibrant and collaborative creative community.  Click here to download a copy of the AiR Handbook and Application (PDF updated 11/21/25). Application deadline is April 15th.  Contact studio@kcclayguild.org with any questions.

KC Clay Guild is not accepting new Artists in Residence in 2026. The current group will stay on through our transition to the new building.

The next application deadline is April 15th 2027 for a residency beginning in August 2027.

Huey Lee he/him

Studio Technician

Bio: Huey Lee is a ceramic artist from South Korea who has dedicated his career to exploring the expressive possibilities of clay. After completing his training as a traditional Korean ceramic artisan, Lee honed his skills working at various pottery and ceramic studios. During this time, he had the privilege of studying under renowned ceramic artists such as TaeGon Kim, Inchin Lee, and the late Gil-bae Kim, who imparted their knowledge of technique, form, and aesthetics. He holds a BFA from Kyung Hee University in Korea and an MFA from the University of Georgia.

Artist Statement: My artistic practice is deeply rooted in my cultural background, religious influences, and nostalgic memories. I express these themes through drawings and sculptures, each possessing its own narrative. These narratives are conveyed through unique characters that serve as a vessel for personal introspection and societal messages, often encapsulating hidden desires and concealed emotions. Utilizing whimsical humor, my work often includes nostalgic figures and objects that evoke sentimental responses in viewers.

Sam Sequeira they/them

Sam Sequeira has been working with clay since 2018 and recently graduated with a BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in Ceramics from the University of North Texas. During their graduate program they taught workshops, participated in local art markets and exhibitions, and assisted local artists. Their work primarily highlights their experience as a lesbian trans-masculine person through imagery on vessels or the form itself. When they’re not in the studio, Sam likes to spend time with their two cats. They love a good walking trail, a great thrift haul, and reality tv.

Naomi Peterson she/her

Naomi Peterson creates cute objects that invite consideration beyond the inanimate. She mixes bright colors and soft patterns with hard materials to investigate the emotive potential of functional things. Using her traditional ceramic background as a lens to view material and process, she builds forms layer by layer, often integrating analog and digital methods. Naomi received her MFA in ceramics from the University of North Texas (2021) and her BFA in ceramics at the University of Wyoming (2017). She has been an artist-in-residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and participated in the annual, short-term, Neltje artist-in-residence program in 2018. Naomi was selected as a 2024 Emerging Artist by Ceramics Monthly. With over 6 years of teaching experience, Naomi has taught at various institutions such as the Glassell School of Art and Art League Houston as well as teaching workshops online and in person.
