About Our Classes

KC Clay Guild offers pottery classes for all skill levels in a welcoming, hands-on environment. Students can choose between hand-building techniques like pinching and coiling or wheel-throwing on the potter’s wheel.

Our skilled instructors guide students through the creative process, making ceramics fun and accessible for everyone.

Which class type is right for you?

  • Not ready to dive into a 4-week class? Sunday Night Pottery class is the perfect way to try your hand at the pottery wheel and see if you like it. It’s unlikely that you’ll become a master in one class, but you will have fun!

  • Beginner classes, both wheel throwing and handbuilding, are for anyone who has no previous experience. If you’ve taken a long hiatus, these classes might be right for you too.

  • Anyone is welcome in a mixed-skill level class. Projects will be accessable for beginners, while more advanced students will be encouraged to create work that is more detailed, more complex and more refined.

  • Intermediate classes are for students who have a strong foundation of skills and are ready for more challenging projects.

  • We offer a variety of workshops throughout the year, including single day, weekend and 6-week classes.

Workshops are usually themed or focused on a specific skill. We offer workshops for both youth and adults. Check out the individual listings to learn more.

  • Youth classes are open to kids age 8-12. Got a teen looking for a class? They are welcome in any of our adult classes.

Youth Summer Classes

  • We offer 3 wheel throwing and 3 handbuilding each week.

Classes are 1.5 hours, a slightly shorter class is typically better for younger students.

Students may take only one handbuilding class and one wheel throwing class per Summer.

Class sizes are capped at 8 students to ensure the best teacher/student ratio..

We can no longer allow students to stay in the building between classes - a student could take both wheel throwing and handbuilding in the same week, but the student would need to be picked up between classes.

Wheel throwing is open to children 8-13, handbuilding is open to children 5-13.

  • Week 1: June 2-6

    Week 2: June 9-13

    Week 3: June 17-20

    Week4: June 23-27

Wheel Throwing or Handbuilding Class 1: 8:30am-10am

Wheel Throwing or Handbuilding Class 2: 10:30am-12pm
