KC Clay Guild offers both private lessons and group classes for all skill levels. Private lessons provide personalized instruction, making them ideal for those with specific projects or tight schedules. Our experienced instructors will tailor the session to your needs, whether you're new to clay or refining your skills.
KC Clay Guild also offers wheel throwing and hand-building group events that can be personalized for the audience, such as team building, corporate events, kids birthday parties, and more. Each event provides hands-on experience with expert guidance, access to studio resources, and a welcoming community of fellow artists.

Private Lessons
Private lessons at KC Clay Guild offer one-on-one instruction tailored to your goals, whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced potter interested in refining your skills.
Lessons may focus on:
Wheel throwing
Handbuilding
Surface design
Glazing techniques
Skill refinement or troubleshooting
If you have a specific project or technique in mind, please share that when scheduling so we can prepare accordingly.
We require 14 days notice to schedule. Our instructors are independent contractors, not staff. We can not accommodate last minute requests.
We require 48 hours notice to rescheduling or cancel and receive a refund. No refunds for missed or no-show sessions. Extra time will no be given for late arrival.

Students are welcome to glaze and fire pieces created during the session. This may be done on their own time, or by scheduling an additional lesson

Do I need prior experience?
No experience is required. Private lessons are appropriate for beginners through advanced students.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting clay on. Closed-toe shoes are recommended.
How many pieces can I make?
The number of finished pieces depends on your skill level, lesson length, and project complexity. Your instructor will help set realistic expectations at the beginning of the session.
When will my work be ready?
Finished pieces typically take 1-2 weeks for the firing. Due to the high volume of our studio, we are not able to contact you when your pieces are ready.

Private Events
Private events at KC Clay Guild are perfect for friends, families, corporate team-building, birthday parties, and special events. Our expert instructors will guide your group through wheel throwing or hand-building techniques, making for a fun and hands-on experience for all skill levels.
Want to keep the fun going for a bit longer? Our library is available for an after party. This space is great for serving food and drinks or opening presents. Includes use of the library television for slideshows or presentations.

For 1 - 8 participants: $350 (Non-Profit rate: $200)
For 9 - 12 participants: $500 (Non-Profit rate: $350)
For 13 - 16 participants: $650 (Non-Profit rate: $500)

Come prepared to get messy!
Your event will be 2 hours long and will include instruction and plenty of time to work. You can make as many things as you want but you can only keep one handbuilt item or three wheel thrown items.
Your instructor will glaze and box your groups pieces. They’ll be ready to be picked up in 4-6 weeks.
The focus of these events is to have fun. It is unlikely you’ll master the process in a single 2-hour class.
Snacks and drinks (including adult beverages for those who are of age) are welcome. For groups of kids, we suggest saving the snacks till after cleanup.

For an additional fee, your group may rent our library for an after party.
This is perfect for snacks and gift opening or a happy hour after a teambuilding event.
The library include a large conference table and television that can be used for a slideshow or presentation.Snacks and drinks (including adult beverages for individuals or age) are welcome.
The Guild does not supply any serving ware, plates, cups or napkins.
Table decorations are allowed, but nothing may be attached to the walls or shelving.
The fee to rent this space for 1 hours is $100. Staff will be available to assist with cleanup.
